The People Behind the Scripture
Music at Songs of Scripture

Two years ago, in the fall of 2004, Alicia Pearce began to write scripture music to the book of Hebrews, after searching for a method with which to retain the scriptures that she memorized. At first, she just did it for her own retention benefit, but then, as she started really liking what was coming out, she thought that maybe *someday*, she would attempt to make the music available to whoever might be interested. It was a faraway dream in her mind.

As she neared the end of Hebrews 10, about a year into her endeavors, she was flipping through a stack of homeschool advertising cards one day, and found an advertisement for Thy Word Creations, a publishing company whose goal it was to make longer passages of scripture available to children and adults in music form. She contacted Thy Word Creations, and they were interested in hearing some of her music, so she promptly sat down and made a rough and out-of-tune recording of Hebrews 1,5, & 10. She was very excited to hear back from Thy Word Creations, that they were pleased with what they heard.

She decided that she would begin the seemingly monumental task of getting her scripture music recorded. A month before these transpirings, she met Alicia Carman at a camp in the Upper Peninsula (of Michigan). She was the first person that Alicia P. had met who had the classical guitar skills necessary to make a good recording. So Alicia P. asked Alicia C. if she would chord and play for the first Songs of Scripture recording. Alicia C. has been a most willing and skillful addition to the project.

Abigail Thompson has been a long time friend of Alicia P. Alicia had had the privilege of hearing Abigail sing with her family many times, and Alicia had in the back of her mind that if she ever recorded, Abigail would be the first person she would ask to sing her music. Abigail was most happy to render her talent to the project. The feedback on the quality of her voice is that it is sweet and pure. Purity + scripture music go very well together.

Abigail has an older brother, Lincoln Thompson, who is a technical genius. Lincoln had acquired for himself a new hobby---that of making quality recordings to aid in teaching his singing classes---and had recently purchased some very high quality computer recording equipment. He was very willing to lend his aid when asked, and has done a marvelous job putting all the sounds together to produce a recording that is truly beautiful.
